Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Updated May 2025

The CCYMCA Camp Huckins community is made up of people of all ages, from many walks of life, playing and working side-by-side. Together, we strive to build a culture where everyone, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender expression, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation feels welcome and valued. Together, we endeavor to create a community where all feel a genuine sense of belonging. Our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility guide everything we do. We use these values as a lens for all aspects of our programs, systems, culture and organization, which helps us build on our strengths and grow in new ways.

Commitments

Huckins programs are built around fun and play, filled with opportunities to try new things. We will strive to remove barriers whenever possible that prevent campers and staff from taking advantage of these opportunities and fully participating in CCYMCA Camp Huckins programs.

Huckins programs foster genuine friendships, friendships that often last a lifetime. We recognize that genuine friendships are created when each person feels seen, respected, and valued as their authentic self. We commit to trying to be honest and open in conversations that move us toward understanding of different perspectives and unique identities, even when that is difficult, practicing grace and accountability as we are learning.

We recognize the importance of connection in the Huckins community, both within our programs and when we are at home. We will strive to expand our culture of welcome and belonging to all in our Huckins community.

We are committed to identifying our strengths and exploring how we can build on them as we strive to create a place where all feel a sense of belonging as their true self. We will learn from our community, recognizing there will always be opportunities for our organization to learn and grow.

We commit to examining traditions, cultural norms, policies, and systems through the lens of our Huckins vision and core values. We will strive to balance respect for the past, maintaining the key elements of the Huckins experience, while working to meet the changing needs of our community, building for the future, and advancing our mission.

CCYMCA Camp Huckins commits to bringing these principles into all programs and initiatives, both on-site and in all community activities.

Gender Inclusion at Camp Huckins

We believe in the value of our inclusive girls’ experience and that it creates a unique opportunity for campers to strengthen their identity in a supportive environment. We seek to empower and celebrate all girls and women, and we welcome campers who feel they will thrive in this environment.

Camp Huckins is an inclusive girls’ overnight camp. We welcome campers who identify as girls, non-binary, and gender fluid, and are emotionally ready to fully participate. We strive to support inclusivity within our program while maintaining the benefits of a single gender experience.
