Q: When will we find out our cabins?
A: When you arrive to camp!
Q: How many counselors does each cabin have?
A: Two counselors in each cabin, unless you are one of the lucky few who are assigned to a CIT training cabin. If this is the case, you will have one counselor with years of experience and a few rotating Counselors in Training who are working with and learning from the trainers.
Q: Do parents help unpack in the cabins?
A: Parents will not go into the cabins to help unpack. Our counselors are ready to help unpack and make beds with campers as they arrive and get settled. We have found this makes drop off much easier on campers, especially new campers! We suggest campers help pack their belongings, so they know where everything is to make their bed.
Q: Is there any opportunity for parents to meet counselors either before or after the session?
A: Yes, both at drop off and pick up!
Q: What if you don’t know anyone at first?
A: You will do lots of “get to know you” activities that first day. You will know people in your cabin by dinner!
Q: When will we find out our bunks?
A: When you arrive at your cabin, you will draw a bunk number out of a hat and that will be your bunk. Campers can request a bottom bunk by contacting the office.
Q: Are we allowed to request who we are bunkmates with?
A: All bunks are randomly chosen.
Q: How big are the beds?
A: Twin
Q: Can you bring a mattress pad?
A: Yes, you can bring a mattress pad. Make sure it is the right size.
Q: How big can the stuffys get?
A: You want to make it easy to make your bed, so I wouldn’t bring really big ones.
Q: What if you forget something? How will you get it?
A: Division leaders have a supply of toiletry items if lost or forgotten. If it is something that you left at home that we cannot replace, parents can contact the office for instructions on how to send the missing item so we can get it to your camper.
Q: Why is it called capers?
A: That is a very good question! A caper to me is a fun shenanigan, so perhaps it’s a way to think about chores as fun activities!
Q: What does the wake-up horn sound like?
A: If you google “reveille bugle” the first 20ish seconds will be what you will hear every morning at 7:15!
Q: What time do you have to go to bed?
A: You will start getting ready for bed around 8:15/8:30. The evening bugle, called taps, will blow at 9pm for juniors/middlers and 9:15 for the older campers. After taps, lights will go out and you will be on your own bunk ready to go to sleep. You can read using your flashlight after the cabin lights go out, but everyone should be quiet.
Q: What happens if you are tired and you have to go to bed earlier than 9 15?
A: You are in your cabin well before that, so if you need to go to sleep a bit earlier you can talk with your counselor.
Q: What happens if everybody else is asleep and you still want to read to fall asleep, can you read under your pillow?
A: Yes, but remember others will be trying to sleep. So be sure to be quiet and keep any light directed in your area.
Q: Are there dim lights when we sleep or is it just dark?
A: There are dim lights, and lights at all of the bathhouses.
Q: If campers are there for a month, how do you help the new kids that come that are only there for 2 weeks?
A: Staff are trained in creating a cohesive cabin dynamic for each session. They will do games to help new campers and monthers make friends quickly.
Q: Just wondering if the cabin is a mixture of 1 session kids and month kids?
A: Yes, though, no monthers until 6th grade, and only a few of those
Q: What if you feel uncomfortable with your cabin mates?
A: Talk to your counselors and they will loop in your division leaders if you have any concerns.
Q: What if you wet the bed?
A: Your counselors will talk about this the first night…sometimes that happens. We have extra bedding to use while we wash it.
Q: Where do we get changed?
A: In your cabin or there are changing stalls in each bathhouse. Your counselor will talk about this on the first day.
Q: How do the showers work?
A: Shower time is during free time (3-5pm). There is a fixture on the shower wall to turn the water on and choose how warm you want it.
Q: What if I sleep through the bugle?
A: Your counselor and cabin mates will wake you up!
Q: Can I sleep in?
A: Once a session we will have a “late breakfast” so an hour sleep in!
Q: How can you exchange info like phone numbers?
A: Before you leave camp, we will email contact information of all the campers in your cabins to your parent/guardian! But come to camp knowing your home phone/email/cell phone to pass out.
Q: Can we mail letters to our parents?
A: YES!
Q: How do you send mail?
A: You will collect letters in your cabin, and you and your cabin mates can take turns bringing your letters to the box at the Program Office.
Q: Can you play cards when it is rest hour”:
A: Everyone stays on their own bunk, so it’s really reading or resting or writing letters.
Q: Can you pass notes during rest hour?
A: Everyone is resting on their own bunk, but you can write notes to share after rest hour.
Q: What if you miss your parents or you feel really bad?
A: It’s totally normal to miss your parents! Talk to your counselor, and they will help you make a plan for having fun while you are at camp. Our staff are very skilled at helping campers feel like camp is home. Of course, we will work with families if a camper really needs to go home. Your Division Leader is also a great person to talk to!
Q: What would happen if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night?
A: Your counselors will talk about this the first day and you will make a plan so you have buddies to go with you. So if you need to go to the bathroom wake up a counselor or a friend! And grab your flashlight 😊
Q: What happens if you are being bullied?
A: You should speak to your counselors or Division leader. Counselors have a way to communicate with a camper that keeps any private comments just between the counselor and the camper. We will take action to stop the bullying, improve cabin dynamics, and make camp fun!
Q: Is there a dress code
A: No dress code! Campers wear dark shorts and white shirts for cabin photos once a session, but no dress code!
Q: Do the dark shorts need to be green?
A: Does not need to be but we recommend it if possible!
Q: how often is there laundry?”:
A: Laundry service is only provided for monther camper, those are campers staying for two session. If you are here for two weeks, be sure to pack enough clothes that would last you two weeks! Refer to our website for the packing list.
